Main Programs

NTFP-EP Philippines works across four interconnected program areas to strengthen forest-based livelihoods, uphold community rights, safeguard cultural knowledge and practices, and support community-led conservation.

Our programs recognize that sustainable livelihoods, forest governance, biodiversity conservation, and cultural continuity are closely linked. Through partnerships with Indigenous Peoples and local communities, we help advance approaches to forest management that are rights-based, culturally rooted, and environmentally sustainable.

The meaningful participation and leadership of women and youth are integral to all four program areas.

Tenure and Governance (T&G)

We support Indigenous Peoples and local communities in securing and exercising their rights to ancestral lands, territories, and forest resources.

Through policy advocacy, community organizing, and engagement with government and other stakeholders, we work to strengthen inclusive policies, programs, and governance processes that recognize community rights and leadership in forest management.

Community-Based Livelihoods and Enterprise Development (CBLED)

We support sustainable, forest-based livelihoods and community enterprises built around non-timber forest products (NTFPs), including forest honey, almaciga resin, natural fibers, forest foods, and other locally sourced products.

Through enterprise development, responsible resource management, skills strengthening, and market linkages, we help communities pursue fairer economic opportunities that sustain livelihoods, respect cultural knowledge, and keep forests standing.

Community-Based Conservation and Resource Management (CBCRM)

We support Indigenous Peoples and local communities in conserving biodiversity, protecting forest landscapes, and sustainably managing natural resources.

Our work includes community-led forest monitoring, ecosystem restoration, resource management, and advocacy against deforestation and forest degradation. We recognize and strengthen Indigenous knowledge, systems, and practices as essential to effective and lasting conservation.

Safeguarding Culture

We support Indigenous Peoples and local communities in practicing, celebrating, and transmitting their cultural knowledge, traditions, and heritage across generations.

Through community-led cultural initiatives, intergenerational learning, and advocacy for culturally responsive policies and programs, we work to strengthen the continuity of Indigenous knowledge, identities, and practices that sustain relationships between peoples, communities, and forests.
